Developing deep learning models to grade guitar veneer

Upload a supported image to receive the model’s predicted guitar veneer grade and scores for 2A, 3A, and 4A.

Live model trial

Upload an image

Choose one supported guitar veneer image. The model will return a 2A, 3A, or 4A prediction with confidence scores for all three grades.

Research prototype

This tool demonstrates a three-class research model. Its output is not an official, professional, or final veneer quality determination.

Trial details

Model stage: Research prototype
Output grades: 2A, 3A, 4A
Selected image: Up to 50 MB

Current limitations

Performance varied across the supplied evaluation images, particularly for 3A. Lighting, camera setup, positioning, and veneer characteristics can affect results. Scores are model outputs, not calibrated certainty.

Image handling

A resized and compressed copy is sent to the MSU Wood AI prediction service for this request. Your original stays on your device, and the lab application does not save the copy after the request completes.

Supported files

Use a clear JPEG, PNG, or WebP image up to 50 MB. Your browser prepares a copy no larger than 1504 pixels per side and under 4 MB before upload.
